Fairfield Energy says it is proud to have been announced as the winner of ‘Excellence in Decommissioning’ at this year’s Oil & Gas UK (OGUK) Awards!
The winners were announced on Thursday 10 December at a virtual awards event which celebrated the outstanding achievements of businesses and individuals across the UK’s oil and gas industry.
The ‘Excellence in Decommissioning’ award was created to recognise companies that are leading by excellence in terms of decommissioning projects in the UK.
Fairfield Energy was awarded the accolade based on its Greater Dunlin Area Decommissioning Project – in particular, the success of its complex well conductor removal workstream. Through a collaborative approach and innovative thinking, the Dunlin team developed a hybrid solution which resulted in a quicker, more cost-effective campaign.
Alan Scott, Dunlin Decommissioning project general manager said: “We are proud that the hard work of Fairfield Energy and our supply chain partners has been recognised by our industry peers. My thanks goes to everyone Involved with this complex workstream to overcome the challenge and execute it in a timely manner
“The Greater Dunlin Area decommissioning project is testament to the expertise held by the extended team and the dedication we have for delivering efficient, fit-for-purpose operations without compromising on safety.
“We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the rest of this year’s winners on their success and we look forward to building on this to develop the most effective solutions for decommissioning in the North Sea.”
Commenting after the event, OGUK’s chief executive Deirdre Michie said: “Congratulations to all our winners and finalists for their phenomenal achievements. It was an amazing event, with the offshore oil and gas industry coming together to celebrate its best and brightest in what has been one of the strongest headwinds our sector has ever had to face.
“Although we could not be together in person, it is so important to highlight the progress our supply chain and businesses have made, and the continuous hard work of the people throughout our industry.
“The celebration is a super way to acknowledge great people, achievements and delivery, despite the current challenges we face.
“Looking to 2021, I believe the North Sea grit the people in our industry are known for will continue to help us move forward, with courage, co-operation and commitment.
“Thank you to everyone who participated, and to our members for their great support and the OGUK team for once again raising the bar to deliver such an excellent event that the whole industry can be proud of.”
The Greater Dunlin Area is located in Blocks 211/23 and 211/24 of the UK Continental Shelf, some 500km north-northeast of Aberdeen within the East Shetland Basin, and 11.2km from the boundary line with Norway.
The Dunlin decommissioning project, from cessation of production to final site remediation, is a multi-year undertaking – with activities planned in consultation with relevant stakeholders; including industry regulators, other users of the marine environment and the community. These consultations have formed the backdrop to a collaborative process with the intention of determining the most appropriate solutions, while balancing considerations for the environment, safety, technical feasibility and socio-economic impact.
