Cable retrieval and pipeline decommissioning focus at Subsea Expo
Published: 24 January, 2019
Hydraulic cutters and systems specialist, Webtool, reports it is exhibiting the latest developments in its industry-leading ROV electric cutters, cable retrieval and pipeline decommissioning tools on stand 124 at Subsea Expo 2019, 5-7 February, Aberdeen. Webtool integrated cutters also featured include IWOCS emergency disconnection and emergency deck cutters.
The company says the modular design Webtool Fast Intervention Tool (FIT) for subsea pipeline decommissioning for Chevron USA combines lifting, crimping, injection and cutting in a single lifting and deployment frame. Using the FIT eliminates the requirement for a containment dome during pipeline cutting, and minimises diver intervention, enabling more environmentally friendly pipeline decommissioning. A working FIT prototype is currently being prepared for hyperbaric testing and sea trials.
In addition to the CRT200 Cable Retrieval Tool, the Webtool stand will feature the EHP350 lightweight, battery powered power pack with a new MODBUS interface. It provides electric ROVs with a high pressure, hydraulic capability needed for using Webtool cutters. The power pack is also compatible with most other subsea hydraulic tools enabling greater utility of the technology subsea.
The Webtool guillotine cutting action is ideal for emergency cutters. Within a well intervention emergency disconnect package, the cutter is able to cut multiple fluid transfer lines and hydraulic flying leads (HFL), steel tension member, fibre rope, reinforced hoses, electrical conductors, cables and electrical flying leads (EFL), within a few seconds. The Webtool portable softline emergency deck cutter for tugs, barges and offshore vessels provides an instant cut of fibre ropes up to 80mm diameter in the event the vessel gets into difficulties.
“The flexibility of Webtool technology and its ease of implementation continue to provide project engineers with an important resource for many subsea deployment and decommissioning projects,” says Keith Elliot, managing director, Allspeeds Ltd.
Subsea Expo Conference Paper – Pipeline Decommissioning
The Webtool Fast Intervention Tool for subsea pipeline decommissioning is featured in the Subsea Expo conference on Wednesday 6 February in the Decommissioning / Reuse session at 15.30.
The Webtool range of high performance cutting tools is designed and manufactured exclusively by Allspeeds Ltd in the UK.
