Manufacturing & Engineering Week names Engineers Without Borders UK as charity partner

Published:  19 April, 2023

Nineteen Group has announced that Manufacturing & Engineering Week www.mandeweek.co.uk has named Engineers Without Borders UK as its official charity partner. Taking place in June 2023 at Birmingham’s NEC, the week-long festival combines both live and digital events and celebrates the best that the UK industrial sector has to offer.

Haf Cennydd, Portfolio Director for M&E Week commented on the partnership saying, “Working with Engineers Without Borders UK as our official charity partner exemplifies everything we are wishing to do. Rather than ‘just’ being a group of exhibitions, we are looking to have a wider impact. Engineers Without Borders UK is embedding globally responsible thinking into the way engineering is both taught and practiced and with Sustainability as one of our main focuses their ambitions align with ours perfectly.”

Engineers Without Borders UK will run a keynote session at 3.10pm on Wednesday 7th June to launch itsGlobal Responsibility Competency Compass. The Competency Compass is a must for those in engineering who are struggling to respond effectively to the complexity, uncertainty and challenges of the age. The action-oriented tool, developed through extensive consultation and testing, articulates the essential skills, knowledge and mindsets that engineers increasingly need to deliver the most positive impact on the four principles of global responsibility: responsible, purposeful, inclusive and regenerative.

John Kraus, CEO of Engineers Without Borders UK spoke about the opportunity that the partnership provides, “The timing of this partnership is ideal, as we prepare to launch the Global Responsibility Competency Compass at the NEC. Since the release of our 2021-2030 strategy, we've received tremendous support from engineering organisations and institutions for the work we're doing to transform the culture of engineering. The Compass will enable us to ramp up our engagement with practising engineers and engineering businesses to maximise our impact. Manufacturing and Engineering Week offers us a fantastic opportunity to spread the word amongst those who can join us to champion the changes necessary to address global challenges."

As part of Nineteen Group’s continued Sustainability drive there is a Manufacturing & Engineering Week Forest, set up in partnership with Forest Nation. 5,472 trees were planted following the 2022 event to offset the emissions generated. With the growth of the show in 2023 a further 3,380 trees have already been planted, meaning Manufacturing and Engineering Week will once again be carbon neutral as it will plant a tree for every visitor registration completed.

Engineers Without Borders UK will have a stand on the exhibition floor – L40 - at Manufacturing & Engineering Week and welcome the opportunity to meet anyone interested in knowing more about their work to put global responsibility at the heart of engineering.
