Published:  19 October, 2017

One of the UK’s leading providers of technical consulting and engineering services – MMI Engineering (MMI) – says it has successfully supported a globally recognised energy and services company on a project that has scooped an award at the Offshore Safety Awards hosted by Oil & Gas UK.

The Warrington based company delivers support to the award-winning Centrica Dropped Objects Prevention Scheme (DROPS) campaign team on a range of areas including demonstrating the reduction in risk posed by dropped objects as a result of the DROP’s team’s actions.

And the Centrica Asset Integrity DROPS campaign team, led by Bob Taylor, received the Operational Integrity award in recognition of the groups increased efficiency and understanding of risks through sensible and proportionate risk management solutions.

Held at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre with official sponsors Maersk Oil, the event is designed to recognise companies and teams that strive to make the UK Continental Shelf one of the safest places to work in the oil and gas industry globally.

Speaking about the project, Philip Taylor, project engineer based at MMI’s Ballymena office said: “We are delighted to be supporting Centrica in taking a positive and proactive approach to addressing the issue posed by dropped objects across their East Irish Sea Assets. It gives us great pleasure to be congratulating all teams involved for this award - particularly one voted for by industry peers – and it has been a real boost for the on and offshore teams working hard to make the facilities a safer place to work.

“Our consultants specialise in risk management strategies to facilitate risk reduction, providing pragmatic and cost-effective solutions with maximizing safety at the heart of everything we do. It is great to see that our hard work and expertise has contributed to this award.”

Centrica’s DROPS campaign team act as a fast response team, addressing damage or wear to topsides structures. With new resources at their disposal, they can amend issues and guard against incidents and dropped objects. MMI has been prioritising work scopes for Centrica for over a year now. The company has advised and witnessed first-hand the team’s dedication and efforts in ensuring the safety onboard its offshore assets.

The work undertaken by MMI includes surveying areas of the platforms ahead of the DROPS team, identifying potential dropped objects, prioritizing those that pose greater risk and further advising on appropriate remedial solutions.

MMI also provide dependable onshore and offshore structural engineering support to the DROPS team where applicable and report any activity or change that could potentially require response from Management of Change.
