Compact Connector awarded DNV GL Type Approval

Published:  05 October, 2017

Hydratight reports it has been awarded DNV GL Type Approval for the lightweight MORGRIP Compact Connector, which will be deployed for topside repairs in the oil and gas industry.

The company says the connector has been developed as a viable alternative to welding and is suitable for 1” to 4” carbon steel pipelines and technicians working on these smaller diameter repairs will benefit from a product that is up to 80% lighter than larger, traditional mechanical connectors. All sizes are stocked for immediate delivery providing a rapid repair solution to the industry.

It features proven MORGRIP technologies including metal graphite composite sealing to provide a chemically resistant, high temperature, high pressure seal that does not degrade in extreme environments.

The MORGRIP Compact has been developed with input from oil and gas industry professionals. It provides a permanent, temporary and reusable mechanical repair solution on critical and non-critical pipeline systems.

Jarrod Ford, topside sales support engineer, Hydratight, said: “We are delighted to receive DNV GL Type Approval for the MORGRIP Compact; the high level of testing and product qualification is a key milestone and testament to this product’s capability.

As the industry seeks to optimise production we are seeing a positive impact this connector has within the market”

The MORGRIP Compact Connector is an innovative development of the proven MORGRIP Connector, which has been replacing the need for the welding of topside and subsea pipelines over the last 25 years.

The DNV GL Type Approval scheme is a procedure by which the society confirms compliance with rules for standard designs and/or routinely manufactured, identical components.
