Pumps conquer new depths

Hughes Pumps has recently manufactured and supplied two specially engineered high-pressure pumping systems for use by specialist subsea pipeline contractor Weatherford International with the company’s Aberdeen based ROVs for sub-sea water jetting maintenance, cleaning and trenching at extreme water depths in the North Sea.
Hughes had to develop a solution that allowed pumping seawater at high pressure while submerged at 3000m depth, and preventing water ingress into the pump crankcase with subsequent corrosion of the pump exterior.
This latest order further enhances the company’s growing reputation in the highly specialist off-shore maintenance sector.
