Applus RTD, providers of integrity technology services, reports it is driving forward an innovative research and development program to incorporate augmented reality systems into its industry-leading technology range.
To demonstrate the value and capabilities of the system, the company has integrated the technology into its RTD IWEX system, which allows detailed inspection and mapping of defects within critical pieces of pipework. It provides users with a 3D image of the inspected object, giving clearer insight into the scale and nature of any existing defects.
As a result,Applus RTDhas launched an application that projects the linear IWEX generated digital image around the weld.The position of defects is therefore unambiguously indicated on the pipe, andusing only a tablet device and a marker the operator can detect, locate and mark the defect.
